THE HOTEL COLLECTION
The hotel collection began with the purchase of the Bells Hotel and Golf Club in the Forest of Dean and has since grown to include three other hotels, The Netherwood in Grange over Sands, The Morritt Barnard Castle and Hall Garth Darlington.
North of England Estates Limited, the parent company of The Squirrel Group was first established in 1934 and is currently run by its board of directors with Mr. DC Mckeag at the helm as its Chairman.
SQUIRREL HISTORY
Mr DC Mckeag’s father was a member of parliament for Durham between 1931-1935, a soldier in both the Great War and the Second World War, as a soldier and a member of Durham City Golf Club. It was during his time as a member of the Durham City Golf Club that North of England Estates Limited was founded following a failed bid by the farmer to sell the land, known now as Mount Oswald to the members who refused.
William Mckeag along with Alderman Pattison and Alderman Jefferson, who were closely associated through the political world, became concerned that Durham would lose the benefit of a local golf course so they founded North of England Estates Limited and then offered to lease the site back to the members.
The focus of the company is now on the development of the hotel collection to offer guests an experience that represents good quality and value with plenty of luxury touches.
